Tanya & Jimmy; Engaged! [Kara Baker, Northshore Massachusetts Wedding Photographer]

I first met Tanya and Jimmy at their engagement session this past Sunday.  I already knew that they had big personalities just by the phone called we had had and the emails that we had exchanged.  Jimmy had joked with me a little bit so I brought a little bit of my "less than professional" personality along with me for the session and thought we'd have some fun... and we did.

Tanya and Jimmy literally waited until a couple of hours before their session began to nail down a location for their session.  We decided to location hop through Wakefield-- they decided to trust my prior experience and expertise to know where some good spots for shooting might be and it ended up working out perfectly.

We had fun walking, talking, and getting to know each other.  They told me a little about how they met (he was asked to babysit her dog, Dozer, while she went off to art school in Maine and the rest is history), their wedding plans, what they do for work, and I even learned that neither one of them know how to properly write their first name in cursive:

"Timmy & Fanya" had a good laugh about that.. and so did I.  They were really fun to work with and I've been told that their wedding will be a blast and I'd honestly be surprised with these two if it were any other way!

Little S Turns ONE!

One of my first sessions as a professional photographer was shooting baby J's portraits and very recently, I shot his baby sister's one year portraits.  This family will always hold a special place in my heart for that reason and because they are truly kind and loving people.  They are the best kind of clients-- the best kind of people.

Baby S was just getting over a cold and sitting still was the very last thing she wanted to do-- two things working against us for our session.  The sitting still is one reason I bring a suitcase with me for most of my one year sessions.  Usually, you can get them to stay in the suitcase for at least as long as it takes to select a focus point and hit the shutter button.  In this case, that was true about half the time.  Little S was fast!

We had lots of fun though and we didn't rush through-- we got what we could and we walked away with some gorgeous shots- not just of S, but of the whole family <3

Paws in The Park

A couple of weeks ago, I photographed some happenings at "Paws in the Park" a dog walk and flea market type event to raise money for homeless dogs.  I can honestly say that I've never seen so many dogs (or dog lovers) in one place at one time before.  It was so much fun.  The weather was a bit odd-- cloudy with some sun and some rain-- kind warm, kind cool, but the dogs loved every minute of it-- and so did I.  Kerri Hark is a dog trainer, owner of I'm The Cheese Canine Behavior Modification and I stuck around and photographed her while interacting with some pups and giving advice to dog owners on common problems such as barking, jumping up on people, and chewing.  She is going to be using some of the photos I took on her website that will be developed soon, but if you are in the area and looking for a dog trainer, grab her info off her business cards below!

Senior Emma Graduates and The S Family

I photographed Emma's Senior photos last Fall and I was invited back again on her graduation day to capture her in her cap & gown and her entire family (who is usually spread out over the entire country).  It was I think the one day in between about 10 that it did NOT rain which was relief since it absolutely could not have been rescheduled!

It was lovely to see the entire S clan and I have dreams of being re-invited back time and time again for all the big S events :)

Little M; 7 Months Old

Word of mouth is the Best.Thing.Ever.  I've shot this family now 3 times.  Do you want to know how they heard about me?  (Ready?) Mom is my ex-boyfriend's fiance's parent's neighbor's cousin's gym buddy.  Word of  mouth has been very kind to me and my business.  I am so very thankful to my clients who refer me to their friends, cousins, gym buddies, neighbors, mechanics, whoever.  Thank you!

Little M is seven months old now.  We aimed to do a 6 month session, but weather and location scouting didn't go our way.  She is a gorgeous little girl and just the perfect combination of both Mom and Dad.

After just waking up from a long nap, she wasn't exactly enthusiastic about performing, but I try to tell parents it's not all about smiles, it's about moments and capturing personality.  Here are some of my favorites (would you look at those eyes?!?)

Senior; Alex (Kara Baker; Peabody, MA Senior Portrait Photographer)

Alex is my second senior this year and I was beyond psyched when she agreed to be my senior rep for Wakefield High School.  This is my first time having a senior rep.  Basically, Alex get's a free session and discounted products because she gets her photos done early and passes out cards with her photos on them along with my info to her friends.  The more of her friends book me for their senior portraits, the more of a discount Alex gets on her senior pics!

The more seniors I photograph, the more I love them.  The don't run away screaming from the camera, they do what they are told, in most cases they actually LIKE being there and they have as much fun as I do.  My goal as a photographer is eventually to move into a place where I specialize in weddings and senior photography.

Anyway, Alex was so much fun.  She came with lots of great ideas of places where we could photograph.  Ideally, I like to go to two or more locations for different feels (soft and flowery and tough and urban) and she introduced me to a new location that I will no doubt be going back to time and time again with seniors.  I love texture, color, and rust and this place had all three! It was so much fun.

Here are a few of my favorites of Alex:
