Familiar Faces

K, K, & R have been loyal clients of mine since I first started my business. I've been able to document some pretty significant times in their lives so far and I can't wait to see what comes next for this Baker family.

Most recently, we had a session for Christmas photos. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how they chose to go with blue. I love Red & Green as much as the next person, but sometimes it's so refreshing to mix it up!

Our first location didn't pan out the way we were hoping it to so we quickly found a replacement location (all in a day's work) and we were very happy to have Foss Farm in Carlisle all to ourselves (minus a horse and a couple of dogs-- and their owners).

Gina & Alan: Married

The first time I met Gina & Alan... was on their wedding day! This was a highly unusual situation for me, but necessary due to the circumstances. Gina lived in Florida. Alan was in the military stationed in Alaska. Neither was due to be in the area until the time of the wedding. I worked closely with Gina's mom and Gina over the course of the months leading up to the wedding. We worked hard on expectations, time lines, what was typical, what wasn't, etc. Together, the 3 of us came up with a really great plan and it played out just wonderfully. I couldn't have asked for more. Gina and Alan were pleasures to work with, as was Terry, Gina's Mom. What a sweet couple and sweet family.

The bride and groom cracked up at the officiant for calling Gina "Lisa" through at least the first quarter of the ceremony until someone corrected her.

The Dad daughter dance had everyone's jaws dropping. It was sweet, fun, and emotional for many.

The backdrop for their sweetheart table was gorgeous and everyone had a fun time.

Oh, and can't forget the cake-smash drama! (Click to see larger images)

Jenna & Matt: Engaged!

The third time was a charm for this couple-- well, almost. After having to reschedule our session twice due to rain, I was not about to let anything come between us and our engagement session the third time. Of course, it just so happened that my son had been hospitalized for asthma, we were both running late, Jenna & I were both wearing flats and stepped in some sort of marsh land, but HEY! We made it WORK!

I love this couple! Jenna is just the sweetest, go-with-the-flow bride-to-be, and Matt is FULL of personality (wedding day should be a blast!). Even though we were cold, with wet feet, losing light, and struggling to find some creative ideas, we pulled out some beauties. (That's me being so modest again).

Here's a few that made the cut! Enjoy!

Fall Maternity Session; Minute Man Park, Lincoln, MA- {Kara Baker Photography}

B&S came to me having been referred by another client (have I mentioned that I love referrals?). Because of their religious and cultural beliefs and traditions, they asked me not to post anything about their session until after their baby had been born and well, baby M made her grand appearance into the world last week (I can't wait to take her newborn photos!).

So here are a few of my favorite photos from our maternity session back in September. This couple was so special and so gorgeous! Enjoy!

Fall Mini Sessions Complete!

So for the first time in my lifetime (at least of which that I am aware) we got a snowstorm before Halloween! When was the snowstorm scheduled to start? Why, the day of my mini sessions, of course! My super, awesome clients helped me re-arrange my day so that we could fit FIVE out of the six scheduled sessions in before the rain and snow started. I cancelled the sixth session a couple of hours prior to their appointment time and I'm so glad I did because just as I finished the fifth, the sky opened. As always though, I believe things happen for a reason and the photos that family number six got were so beautiful and special to them too because they got to pick their own location (given that they were the only family left that hadn't had their mini session!).

We endured some tough crowds this year! Naptime for some of the kiddos meant less smiles, some of the kids were just camera shy, and some just wanted NOTHING to do with the process. I took my Dad along as an assistant for instances similar to this-- and he knew just what to do-- put a bucket on his head, of course! Kids loved it! I was definitely grateful to have my Dad their helping me out.

Quick back story; I grew up around photography. My Dad was a photographer (back in the days of film). During my childhood, I was often the subject of my Dad's photography passion and couldn't have been less interested. So it was really neat that my Dad got to see ME work. He's a retired photographer now and just does it as a hobby, but it's still neat to have someone to chat all things photography with.

Without further ado; some favorites from the day (in no particular order) (and the make-up day!):

Make-Over Winner Results!

Yesterday, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Deb, our winner of the Paul Kenneth Salon & Spa Make-Over Giveaway. As a mom of twin 5-year old girls, she doesn't very often get to put herself first. Paul Kenneth made sure (that at least for yesterday), that had changed.

Upon entering the salon, Deb was greeted both by a huge welcome sign and by warm and welcoming staff. She had a consultation with Jennifer to make sure that Deb was going to be more than happy with her look. Deb explained that what she wanted most (other than a fresh look) was something easy to maintain since time is such a factor for her.

I made my exit, excited to return a few hours later. I was so happy for Deb when I saw her! She had a new confidence; a new glow about her... and she looked gorgeous! Being a mom myself who does not wear make-up unless I am working, I totally 'get' that feeling and was happy to imagine what Deb was feeling.

Along with her hair, Deb got her make-up done, her nails done, and the wonderful staff at PK Salon bought her lunch! That was just the icing on the cake-- a true testament to the types of people that own and work at the salon. A manicure, nor lunch, was included in my giveaway, but they went the extra two miles to make Deb feel even more special.

Just a few of the awesome staff from PK Salon (Jennifer, Deb, Julie, & Jackie)

Without further ado, I give you Deb's before and after photos. I am so happy for her and can tell that she did absolutely did deserve to win this makeover!
