Senior Anna -(Melrose Senior Photography)

I had the pleasure of photographing Anna this past Monday. She was worried because it was a cloudy day and wasn't sure if the lighting would be good enough. I explained to her that the clouds acted as giant diffusers (much like my softbox set up in her living room for her yearbook shots) and that it would be perfect; and it was pretty close!

We headed up to Bellevue Golf Course and found more backdrops than I ever imaged we would at a golf course! It was such a fun afternoon and I really enjoyed Anna.

The L Family; Epping, NH {Kara Baker, Family Photographer}

This session was a long time coming! I was supposed to do baby L's newborn photos, but a terrible accident on 95N prevented me from ever getting there in August. Instead of trying for another day that week, Mom opted for 3 month photos with the whole family instead. Thankfully, everything worked in our favor. Friends of the L family offered for us to use their beautiful farm on which to take photos, the day was beautiful both temperature-wise and light-wise, and JUST as we were wrapping up, the first raindrops started to fall.

This family is so adorable. Their spirited little girl gave me a run for my money, but I won in the end because... well... see for yourself:

Our Big Make-Over Giveaway WINNER!

We (myself & The Paul Kenneth Salon & Spa) are SO excited to announce our big winner for the complete makeover! It was so hard to chose! I was supposed to give Jackie (co-owner of PK Salon) 3-5 of my top choices and I gave her six. Then Jackie had trouble narrowing it down to just 1 so she sent back 2 names and had me choose... and the winner is.... DEB HINES!

Congratulations to Deb! She has a list of dates from which to chose her makeover and then we'll be posting some before & after photos! I can't wait!

Thank you SO MUCH to ALL who participated. I appreciate you playing along and helping out local businesses.

Best to all!

Senior Emma

Emma was my fourth official senior session. I realized that I really like doing senior portraits. I'm so used to chasing two year olds and posing newborns that seniors seem like a walk in the park; they dress themselves, they take instruction, they actually LOOK at the camera, and let's face it; most of them are just gorgeous! Emma was NO exception. I (well, I hope WE) had a lot of fun! Here are some of my favorites from our afternoon together:

Baby L... And Other Familiar Faces

I was asked back by the family that won my big Spring Photo Contest Giveaway to photograph their newest addition; baby L. I said it last time, and I'll say it again; there is just something about this family! They are so warm, welcoming and just FULL of personality. Big sister G is a riot! And of course, big brother A is just a doll.

Baby L was a little older than I am used to photographing for a newborn. At 19 days, we had some trouble getting him to sleep. I think we also hit a record for most baby poos in one session, haha.

Our Big Make-Over Giveaway!

So you probably have noticed that KBP has gotten a total make-over, right? I really felt that it was time for a new look and a new brand for KBP. When I first started in this business 2 years ago, I was still trying to find out who I wanted to be as an artist. (Well, I guess I will always be evolving, right?) Two years in, however, I feel like I know myself better than I ever have. I wanted to re-brand to let clients see the new me. I refreshed my brand to more accurately reflect my business style; sophisticated, professional, and all about you.

In order to celebrate this event (and it HAS been an event-- I had no idea how much goes into re-branding (although I should have had a clue since I did brand once already)) we are giving away... (you ready?).... A TOTAL MAKE-OVER from... an AWARD WINNING (TOP 200 SALONS IN THE COUNTRY among other awards!)... The PAUL KENNETH SALON!

Kara Baker Photography and The Paul Kenneth Salon are putting their heads and talents together to offer you a chance to win a complete make-over; hair cut, color, style and make-up! This is HUGE!

I (personally) stumbled across the Paul Kenneth Salon over 3 years ago, when I was pregnant with my son. My sister wanted highlights in her (dark brown) hair and I was certain I could pull it off with just a quick trip to a high-end beauty store. Hours later, we realized how wrong I was. I had tried other salons in my area in the past, and was not satisfied at all so I wasn't about to bring her there to fix what I had done. The Paul Kenneth Salon had been recommended by both friends and family; said to be like "Newbury Street in Woburn" and they could NOT have been any more right! I called and they told us to come down there that day. PAUL KENNETH HIMSELF sat down with my sister and I for a consult. I told him what I did and he told me they would fix it. He set us up with Amy (the best hair-stylist on the planet, in my humble opinion). I could not believe the results. They took an absolute mess and turned it into the best cut and color I had ever seen (not only on my sister, Emily, but maybe on anyone). I immediately made my own appointment and have been going there ever since and not once have I looked back. I couldn't believe the way we were treated (having never been there before, and having just butchered hair so badly). I have never had an experience like this before ever. The Paul Kenneth Salon is UNMATCHED in quality, customer service, and satisfaction.

To say that I feel HONORED that the PK Salon is willing to do this giant giveaway with me is an understatement!

(Sorry, Emily, but I have to do a before and after pic series so people can see how serious I am). So I don't have a photo of the disastrous mess I made of Emily's hair, but I have a general before picture and an after picture of a couple years later:

A Windy Day in Lynn- 2 Year Old Session

M (who I have been photographing since he was 6 months old) is about to turn two! I just recently posted about how I love watching my clients grow; it's so exciting. I watch bellies turn into babies, which turn into one-year olds, and now two-year olds! I get to watch families grow and multiply. Little M is just a reminder why I do what I do. I feel beyond blessed that families allow me to come in and capture the biggest milestones in their lives.

It was a windy day at Red Rock Park in Lynn, MA this past Monday. It was high tide so we weren't able to get too many shots with the ocean-- next time! As with most of my child portrait sessions, the child(ren) dictate when the session is up and M timed this one at just under an hour-- quite quick! BUT we got what we needed. New Wedding Pamphlets!

I am so excited to finally have some professionally designed and printed wedding pamphlets to hand out to perspective clients! It am not 100% sure that I have them folded the correct way, but I'll figure that out once I calm down from all the excitement ;)
