The B's; My First Maternity Shoot

I was so excited (and a bit nervous) when K & K asked me to take their maternity photos. I'm a big fan of another photographer friend of theirs and wanted them to be just as happy with their KBP photos! It was the first time I had rented studio space. I was a little intimidated by all of the equipment and hoped that I could pull it off and still look relatively professional ;) It turned out to be a really great and fun experience and I am very pleased with some of the images I got. Here's a peak at a few of my faves :)

The T Family

The T family was referred to me through a mutual friend. Actually, the referral came from a friend I've never met in person! When I found out I was pregnant with my son, I joined a group for women expecting babies in September of 2008. We still remain a strong group and I'm certain that I've made some life long friends on that message board!

The T family met me at Horn Pond in Woburn on a beautiful (albeit a little crisp) Saturday morning in April. Their little boy, C, was a little hesitant of the woman with the camera.. at first. In no time, he warmed right up and we had a lot of fun. This was such a sweet family and I for sure got some new images for my website :)

Baby "B"

Baby "B" was actually my first newborn model :) At 12 days old, she was a little older than the pros tend to recommend for newborn photography. Typically, you want to try to set up a newborn shoot in the first 10 days of the baby's life to ensure the sleepiest of babies (because, of course, some of the best newborn photos are of sleeping babies!) and also because the baby acne tends to kick in a little bit after day 10. We didn't have any problem with the acne, however, baby "B" did not want to sleep for me! I had big dreams of capturing those adorable sleepy newborn photos: baby holding head up, baby asleep on stack of towels, baby asleep in basket, etc.

It had been a while since I actually worked with a newborn- since my own, really, 18 months ago. I forgot how strong willed they could be! My goal was for froggy-legged poses, but "B" wanted those legs stretchhhed out! All in all, we did manage to capture a few cute ones. Thanks for looking!

Florida Sunshine

I had the pleasure of photographing "S" this past week while in Florida. She was so easy to work with and so easy to photograph. The camera loves her! S is a gorgeous girl with an even more beautiful personality and it really shines through in her photographs. Here are just a few of my favorites from our session.

Cassie & Mark: Adult Siblings

Today, I had the chance to photograph by best friend of 22 (wow, that makes me feel old) years! She told me that the only thing that her mother wanted for her (leap year) birthday this year was a photograph of her and her brother. I faced two very difficult challenges with this shoot. The first challenge was the question of how to pose an adult sister and brother. Since they are way past the age where lovey-dovey, cutsie stuff just won't work, we had to get creative. Fortunately, since they both have such unique personalities, it turned out to be a simple task! The second challenge had to do with location; and the weather. We had planned to shoot outdoors (as I currently do not have a studio set-up). It would have been a nice day (41 degrees isn't too bad for February in Boston), but the wind ended up being a problem. After the first few shots, we all knew that this location just wasn't going to work today. Desperate to find a last minute location, Cassie suggested that we go to her place of work; an orthodontist's office. I thought that especially with these two, the opportunity could really be a fun one; and that it was! The bottom line: you can make ANY place into a studio.

This photo (below) was actually taken in front of an elevator door.

Baby J; My First Official Returning Client :)

I first took baby J's photos back in October, when he was just about 2 months old. Now 4 months, he is so much bigger and cuter than ever! What a doll! We had so much fun with J. His mom is such a pleasure to work with because she's really willing to go along with/try anything. We got some fabulous shots with some cute props and poses! I'm pretty happy with the photos from this shoot. I find that I am struggling with color lately so that, and the external flash, are the two things at the top of my "to master" list. Thanks for looking!

A Wedding on New Year's Day!

This blog feels like it's been a long time coming. It's really only been 14 days, but I feel like I have been working on these photos forever! I was very excited about shooting a wedding. My good friend, Bridget (who is also a photographer) allowed me the opportunity to co-shoot the wedding of one of her colleagues. I have to be honest; I totally underestimated the job of a wedding photographer. It is a hard job with a lot of work involved. I give wedding photographers a lot of credit. It was a lot of fun, but it was certainly challenging... and I did face my fair share of challenges. It was the perfect wedding to photograph for a photographer's first wedding. It was a small affair; there were only about 30 guests in attendance and the bride was very easy going, laid back, and really a pleasure to work with.

I am comfortable with the images I captured from this wedding. As I said, I know that there are certain mistakes that I made, but it was definitely a learning experience. I know what I need to work on, where my weaknesses lay, and I am going to focus a large amount of my energy on mastering those areas. With all that said, I would like to share some of the images from the wedding. I think that this is a fair representation of the images I captured as well as the stage I am at in my photography journey.
